A BIT ABOUT ME

Dedicated to wellbeing

Yoga & Pilates Algarve was founded by me (Victoria Barton) with the purpose to provide friendly, functional and expert Yoga & Pilates classes to the central Algarve region. I take a holistic approach to whole-body wellness and transformation through functional movement. I want you to feel strong and capable in every area of your life and that's what I aim to provide in our classes. I provide sessions to beginners to advanced, from the injured to the athlete and everyone in between those! I offer an array of learning experiences through Mat Pilates, Yoga, Pilates Reformer and the Exo Chair to help you on your path to whole-body wellness.

 

ABOUT ME

My journey into teaching began with Yoga. From the age of 15 I was regularly attending Yoga classes with her mum in the UK. This love of Yoga led me in 2011 to embark upon a classical Hatha teacher training program in Sydney, Australia, this training quite literally changed my life from having a corporate job to deciding to teach Yoga full time. 

Whilst teaching Yoga at a Boutique Pilates studio in Sydney I was regularly attending reformer Pilates classes, and loving every second. An opportunity for an in-house apprenticeship arose so I jumped at the chance. Roll forward two years and I was teaching Mat Pilates, Reformer Pilates and Yoga, and really enjoying the complimentary aspects of the modalities.

Throughout my training I was also able to use both Pilates and Yoga as a therapeutic tool my my own body and mind, having suffered with on going lower back pain, scoliosis and episodes of stress and anxiety. For me personally both systems of Pilates and Yoga have had a profound effect on  my body and mind.

Really enjoying this therapeutic aspect of movement I decided to train further with Polestar Pilates who are
known for their holistic and science-based approach to functional movement. After 3 years of study, working alongside my amazing mentors, developing and growing as instructor I became studio qualified in Pilates.

Now after having my beautiful little boy and experiencing the wonders of pregnancy and post birth I have a keen interest in women's health. I have also added Barre to my teachings, loving the full body workout you can get in every class.

MAT PILATES

Mat Pilates classes are a full body workout designed to improve your strength, posture and mobility. Each class is programmed to tone, stretch and work the entire body.

Mat classes are for everyone, from the absolute beginner to the experienced. If you are looking for improved flexibility, better posture, more efficient movement, the body/mind connection — just about every benefit the Pilates method has to offer can be achieved through mat work.

YOGA

Yoga is a great all-rounder. You'll experience improvement in your overall fitness levels, strength and flexibility. The focus on the breath will help the mind to quieten while the relaxation practice brings a sense of calm and wellbeing

What to expect


A wide range of yoga poses, including flowing sequences, standing poses, seated poses and balances. Your teacher will teach you correct physical alignment and bring your attention to the breath as you link breath awareness with movement. Each class ends with a guided relaxation.

REFORMER PILATES

A Reformer Pilates session provides all the benefits of traditional mat-based Pilates, but with extra intensity and challenge.


You’ll stretch and strengthen muscles and joints, using pulleys and springs to create resistance and challenge your body in new ways. By creating the perfect balance between strength and flexibility.

YOGA & PILATES CLASSES AT YOUR HOME

Private classes are a wonderful way to really make sure that your individual needs are being met in your Yoga or Pilates practice.


Whilst it can be really inspiring and energising to practice with other people, group classes don't necessarily work for all people at all times in their lives. Sometimes we need a little bit more one-on-one attention to really get the most out of our practice.


Or perhaps you would like a small group classes in the comfort and convenience of your home or office and have your teacher come to you.  This option is perfect for friends wanting to do classes together and share the cost. A meeting or conference room is generally perfect for this purpose. A large living area or terrace can serve as a suitable space in your home.
